Clickbait Technique for lead generation

One of the marketing techniques is to target your potential customers directly, for instance, by sending them emails directly into their email inboxes, or by using SMS instead, etc.

But the question is: How can I get their contact information? In other words, how can I generate leads? (Generating leads means collecting information about your potential customers such as the email addresses, phone numbers, or any other information you need).

Here you need to implement a clickbait technique. So, what is it? And how can I implement it?

The Clickbait technique is to give your customer something for free (bait), but in order to get it, he needs to insert some information (the information you need) and click a button.

For instance, let’s say that I sell makeup, so to generate leads I’m going to give my potential customers “some tips and tricks to keep their skin healthy while wearing the makeup”, but to get those tips and tricks they have to insert their email addresses.

Best practice of implementing the clickbait technique?

  1. Build a landing page contains a contact form with the fields of the information you need, and don’t forget, the shorter your form is, the more they are likely to fill it. So try to keep it short.
  2. Shorten the link of the landing page using one of the shorteners tools (i.e. in order to be able to follow your link and get the statistics you need.
  3. Create an ad that targets your customer persona (target audience) telling them about your free stuff and how to get it (and of course containing the link of the landing page).
  4. After getting the information you need, start an email, SMS, WhatsApp, etc. campaign (depends on the information you’ve gotten).

An example of a clickbait technique that followed by an email marketing campaign:

After building the landing page that contains a contact form with a field of the email address, create an ad announcing that anyone inserts his email address will get a gift into his inbox.

After getting your potential customers’ emails, send them promo codes, free trials, or anything that can motivate them to make a purchase.
